about dr. guthrie

I am deeply committed to helping people improve their mental and emotional well-being. Life is often hard; I’m here to help you navigate the challenges, celebrate the positives, and foster personal growth and resiliency.

Naturopathic Doctor & Registered Psychotherapist

With over 15 years of experience in mental healthcare, I am dual-credentialed as a Naturopathic Doctor and Registered Psychotherapist. My practice focuses on treating common mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, and high stress levels across all stages of life. I am deeply committed to helping people improve their mental and emotional well-being. Life is often hard; I’m here to help you navigate the challenges, celebrate the positives, and foster personal growth and resiliency.

My passion for treating mental health began in 2006 when I graduated naturopathic medical school and launched my clinical practice.  It was within my first few years of practice that I witnessed firsthand the profound impact of mental health issues in our community. Mental health concerns are frequently overlooked and inadequately treated within our current healthcare system, which lacks the capacity to deliver comprehensive, holistic care. Motivated by these observations and experiences, I pursued further post-graduate training specializing in mental healthcare.

Today, my clinical practice is dedicated to enhancing mental and emotional well-being through evidence-based therapies. These include personalized nutritional education, standardized herbal medicines, targeted nutritional supplements, comprehensive lifestyle support and psychotherapy. Central to my approach is creating a non-judgmental and trauma-informed environment where patients feel supported and understood. By carefully considering each individual's unique health needs, I prescribe treatments that are tailored, practical, and effective. Being an experienced advocate of integrative medicine, I combine naturopathic treatments with psychotherapy, and strongly support conventional medical care. I firmly believe in a holistic approach to healing, recognizing that combining these modalities often yields the best outcomes for patients.

As a registered psychotherapist, I have extensive training in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I provide compassionate, goal-oriented therapy aimed at empowering individuals to achieve meaningful change. I actively listen, reflect, and collaborate with you to deepen self-understanding. Together, we identify solutions and implement strategies to modify unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors. My goal is to support your journey towards greater self-awareness and well-being, guiding you step-by-step.

In addition to my individual clinical practice, I’ve held a faculty member position at The Centre for Mindfulness Studies in Toronto since 2011. Within this role, I specialize in facilitating transformative Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) groups. I’m also an approved MBCT mentor and enjoy providing professional training for mindfulness practitioners.
